About Us
Meet the Facilitators
At Roots To Sky, children are guided by caring facilitators who foster a safe, supportive environment for exploration and growth.
Sarah and Nick hold space for children with attentiveness, patience, and respect. Rather than directing every moment, they observe closely and step in when guidance or support is needed.
Their role is to nurture curiosity, encourage independence, and help children build confidence through real experiences in nature. They support children in working together, solving problems, and discovering their own strengths.
A deep respect for nature is at the heart of the program. The forest becomes both classroom and teacher, offering endless opportunities for learning, wonder, and connection.
“Children cannot bounce off the walls if we take away the walls.”

How it all started
The Story Behind Roots To Sky
Roots To Sky Forest School grew from a shared desire to create a learning environment where children could spend meaningful time outdoors while building confidence, friendships, and curiosity about the natural world.
Families in the Nelson area were looking for opportunities that complemented home learning while offering children a strong sense of community.
From this need, Roots To Sky slowly took shape as a nature-based program rooted in respect for children, land, and learning through experience.
The program continues to grow through the dedication of facilitators, families, volunteers, and community supporters.

Our Dedicated Board Members
Roots To Sky is supported by a local volunteer board of directors who help guide the program and ensure it remains sustainable for the families and children it serves.
Our board members bring a variety of experiences in education, community work, and nonprofit leadership. Together they support the long-term vision of the program and help Roots To Sky continue to grow.
A Community Effort
Roots To Sky exists because of the support of families, volunteers, and community members who believe in the importance of nature-based learning.
From parents who help during events to local supporters who contribute time or resources, the program is held by a wider circle of people who care deeply about children and the land.
Whether you are a family exploring the program, a supporter who believes in outdoor education, or someone simply curious about what we do, we welcome you to learn more and connect with us.
